Eric Imbuelten, M.B.A. founded A.E.I. Financial Group as his first business in 1990, where customer service was his focus. Eric started A.E.I. as a tax and bookkeeping business in San Leandro, California in May 1990 to work with small business owners and individuals.
Five years later after growing significantly to about 100 clients, A.E.I. Financial Group was about to enter the financial planning arena by attending U.C. Berkeley once again. This time he pursued studies in Personal Financial Planning and received his Certificate in Personal Financial Planning in 1999. With this credential and my Life Insurance Agent License, he began to work on insurance planning as well as retirement planning using annuities for clients. As an advocate for his clients' insurance needs, he was able to add value by offering Financial Planning services to clients of A.E.I. Financial (the "Group" was dropped since the company had no employees). Instead of offering only tax preparation & bookkeeping, the next logical step was offering tax planning, insurance and savings plans for retirement. Eric wrote comprehensive financial plans that assessed 6-8 financial areas of his clients’ lives. He had become proactive about safety and preservation rather than risk-based for his clients’ benefit. In 2005, he obtained his real estate license in order to help clients to obtain better mortgage products (never once advising to do negative amortization or variable loans) for their residences and their investment properties.
Since November, 2006 A.E.I. Financial Strategies has been incorporated as a subchapter S-corporation in Santa Rosa, California. In 2007, health insurance for groups and individuals became the focus as there were many tax incentives for having the correctly established health insurance plan. With healthcare reform, there are still solid reasons to work with an agent or broker such as A.E.I. to obtain the value of a correctly chosen plan that fits more than just an insurance need, but one that fits tax needs as well. This is our specialty: Weaving together the financial planning principles together for added value. Most of the time, there is no added cost to work with A.E.I. because the company receives a commission from the insurance carrier. Have your health and life insurance review with A.E.I. at least 3 months before your renewal date to ensure that you have the best benefits and value available on the current market. This industry is changing daily! My name is Eric Imbuelten and I am the owner of A.E.I. Financial Strategies. I was born in San Francisco, California of parents who both immigrated to the U.S. My father is from Bremen, West Germany and my mother is from Montréal, Canada. In June 1984, I graduated from University of California at Berkeley (long after the Bezerkly era) with a Bachelors of Arts degree in French. I did not envision myself as a French teacher, but I loved the language, so I now speak it fluently. My first career choice was actually dentistry, however I found out after one semester at U.S.C. Dental School that it would be a bloody, monotonous career that did not inspire me. So, I decided to follow in my father’s footsteps and study business and economics.
It was like retooling and changing railroad tracks. I studied practical, analytical courses like Microeconomics, Accounting, Statistics and Quantitative Analysis. I entered the Masters Program for Business after one year of catching up with the business basics as a post graduate. Then, for the next two years including summers, I studied Corporate Finance, Marketing, Accounting and several other graduate courses to receive my Masters in Business Administration (M.B.A.) in Finance from California State University Hayward in June 1988.
I spent the first 3 years out of graduate school working with taxes at H&R Block and Accounting at Bechtel Corporation (the largest privately owned Engineering and Construction firm in the world) followed by business development with Banque Nationale de Paris (one of the top 12 banks worldwide at the time) in San Francisco, California. Working for corporations was not as fulfilling for many reasons as working in a small business for my clients where I could see the results of my effort. H&R Block gave me the idea that I could work directly with clients and produce an end-product that was satisfying because it was my product from start to finish.
Eric lives in Santa Rosa very close to Highway 12 near the Sonoma Valley wine country. He also enjoys fitness training, travel, reading, and wine tasting.
